The Awami League has taken the lead from rival BNP in the chairman post tally with its activists resorting to widespread violence and rigging in the fourth phase of the upazila polls yesterday.
The AL favourites had been trailing the BNP-backed candidates in the first two phases of the polls but they had closed the gap in the third phase, which too was marked by violence and anomalies.
